KEATING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, DIVISION 2
Keating Elementary School.s Div 2, led by Emma Walsh, Lauren Hutchinson, Kitana Sivananthan, Kaiko McCaig, Kaelynn Lindahl, Astrid Sibbald, and Christina Compton organized a number of unique and successful fundraisers last year. One of these was a used toy and popcorn sale for the Cops for Cancer fundraiser, bringing in an extra $800.00 for children with cancer. Another event they hosted was a traditional Quebecois family dance at the school to benefit victims of the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, raising an extra $628 for the cause. They inspired the whole school to get involved, including one kindergarten child who brought in all of her birthday money ($50 in twoonies) to support the cause. This energetic group of grade 5s is teaching younger students how to raise money, in the hopes that future generations will continue to help more people in need.

OAK BAY HIGH SCHOOL, LEADERSHIP TEAM
Students at Oak Bay High School are at it again . this is the third consecutive year they have won the Youth in Philanthropy Award for their extraordinary efforts! This fundraising team is motivated by two project leaders, Carly Swift and Emily Koide, who led the team to raise an outstanding $43,000 for Cops for Cancer. They also worked closely with Cathleen Evans, Danica Robertis and Liam McDonough. The students came up with a variety of events, including a head shave, silent auction, bottle drive and an 8 hour relay to encourage everyone at their school and in their community to get involved. Some of the students even came back to school before summer break ended to ensure their initiative got underway on time. To continue their legacy, they involved at least one "junior" member on each project team to carry over their knowledge and experience to the next year. Keep up the good work Oak Bay!
