Helen and Ted Hughes
 Together and independently, Helen and Ted Hughes have supported many causes and organizations across British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Helen is involved in various committees that focus on children, youth and families because she believes that these are the pillars for a strong community. A few of the groups Helen is involved with are Victoria Youth Empowerment Society and the Literacy Advisory Group. Ted has served on a variety of boards and committees and is currently the Co-Chair of the Greater Colalition to End Homelessness

Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award - presented by Telus
Maria Dominelli
 Maria Dominelli is well known in our community as an advocate for children. As a director for eight years and past chair of the Queen Alexandra Foundation, she helped to raise millions of dollars for the construction of two new centres. For twelve years Maria has been a leader in one of the city’s largest events- the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival - helping to raise critical funds to support women with breast cancer. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Victoria Walk for the Cure cabinet are just a few other groups that benefit from Maria’s tireless efforts. Maria leads by example and hard work, always inspiring others to get involved and help.

Outstanding Philanthropic Service Club - presented by the United Way
Women’s Institutes of BC (Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands)
 2008 marks the 100th anniversary of this remarkable group of women who have made outstanding contributions to life in our communities. They were integral in raising funds to establish the BC Children’s Hospital and the original Queen Alexandra Solarium for Crippled Children that opened in 1926. Since that time, tens of thousands of children and youth have been helped thanks to their determination and vision. The environment, sustainable farming and the support of healthy communities are all part of their focus and efforts.
